On a splendid, sun-kissed Sunday morning, we found ourselves in honey heaven, ready to embark on a buzz-worthy adventure in beekeeping! Welcoming twelve guests from every corner of Athens, we were all ready uncover the sweet secrets of nature’s golden nectar.
First we had to present the protagonist: the majesty, the honey bee. Then came the fun part – the tasting extravaganza! We kicked off with the orange blossom honey from Laconia, followed by a spicy trip through Cycladic thyme honey. Next on the honey hit parade: Peloponnesian fir honey, Mount Olympus oak tree honey, and Thessalian cotton blossom crystallized honeys. Describing the flavors was a bit of a tongue twister, but hey, we were all in it together, having a honey of a time! After a quick breather, we indulged in a homemade treat: Domokou cheese jazzed up with crystallized orange blossom honey and a sprinkle of bee pollen – talk about a taste sensation!
pine honey is the leader unifloral honey produced in Greece, covering 60% of annual production!
But wait, there’s more! We sampled a deffected honey to raise some eyebrows before wrapping up with pine honey from Evia’s forest wonderland. And let’s not forget the hive tour – suited up in our beekeeping best, we lit the smoker and joined the hive hustle! The sight of thousands of bees, the hum of activity, and the sweet symmetry of it all left us buzzing with excitement. After spotting the queen bee, we couldn’t help but bee-lieve we’d had the sweetest adventure yet! We marked our calendars for the next honey hangout, where we’ll be welcoming our guests’ little honey-lovers. Until then, let’s keep the buzz alive – Greek honey, anyone?
