The annual Honey Fair (“Giorti Meliou) at the Zappeion in Athens has become the most vibrant celebration of Greek honey — a four-day gathering where visitors, food lovers, and international buyers can taste the entire spectrum of Greek terroir in one place. This year’s event brought together more than 100 producers from every corner of the country, turning the gardens of the Zappeion into a live map of Greek landscapes, aromas, and traditions.
For foreign visitors, the festival is a unique opportunity:
to explore rare honeys, meet producers face-to-face, and understand the diversity of Greece through authentic flavors.
As Honey Experts, we were proud sponsors of the event, supporting a platform that not only celebrates Greek honey but also helps bridge the gap between producers and the international market.
Why the Festival Matters for International Visitors and Buyers
A Four-Day Taste Journey Across Greece
From the pine forests of Thasos and the mountains of Central Greece to isolated islands with their own microflora, the festival showcased honeys that rarely make it abroad.
Visitors had the chance to:
-
taste award-winning varieties,
-
discover small family producers,
-
try limited-edition honeys such as wildflower mountain blends or polygonum honey,
-
and learn the story behind each bottle directly from the beekeepers themselves.
For anyone curious about Greek gastronomy, the festival is simply the best place to experience the country’s honey culture in depth.
