Recently, as part of an international scientific conference in Athens, we organized a corporate honey tasting event for 100 international participants at a prestigious hotel. Guests had the opportunity to explore Greece’s rich beekeeping tradition and taste six monofloral varieties of Greek honey, following an expert sensory analysis approach:
🍯 Thyme – aromatic and intense, with herbal notes
🌳 Oak – dark and full-bodied, with caramel undertones
🌿 Heather – rich and velvety, with a long aftertaste
🌰 Chestnut – slightly spicy, with a subtle bitterness
🌲 Pine – mild sweetness and a robust texture
🏔 Fir (Vytina variety) – uniquely delicate, with a creamy consistency
Participants were amazed by the distinct textures, unique aromas, and diverse flavor profiles of each honey. The tasting followed the official terminology and techniques used by professional honey sommeliers, making it a truly immersive sensory experience.
