The Ministry of Rural Development & Food announces that in 2024, it will proceed in the financial support for beekeepers in Greece. The purpose of the support is the protection of bee colonies and improvement of biodiversity.
Depending on the number of hives owned, the financial aid is:
20 – 110 hives: 1.650€/year
111 – 200 hives: 5.115€/year
201 – 300 hives: 8.580€/year
301 – more: 10.230€/year
Eligible beneficiaries are individuals, legal entities, and groups of these, who hold a beekeeping identity and are registered in the National Electronic Beekeeping Registry with at least 20 beehives. Those already participating in the organic farming control system, according to Regulation (EC) 848/2018, are excluded.
Farm Eligibility Criteria
The beehives must:
- Be declared in the 2024 Single Application for Aid (SAA).
- Be legally owned at the time of inclusion and throughout the commitment period.
- Not be included in an active organic farming contract from January 1, 2023, to June 15, 2024.
Selection Criteria Principles
The priorities are:
- Young farmers.
- Beehives of small and medium-sized farms.
- Farms located in mountainous, disadvantaged, island, and environmentally sensitive areas.
Beneficiary Obligations
The commitments start on June 30, 2024, and last for six years. Beneficiaries must:
- Sign a contract between June 16 and June 30, 2024.
- Maintain the number of beehives/nuclei with which they entered the Intervention.
- Comply with the provisions of organic beekeeping.
- Submit an annual payment request and accept inspections.
- Keep records for three years after the commitments end.
Type of Aid Granted
The financial aid is granted annually and varies depending on the number of beehives, with a maximum amount of €10,230 per year for large farms.
